For many people the island of Santiago is only visited to change planes in Praia. There is much more to this island though. A drive from Praia to the lovely town of Tarrafal in the north, takes you through the mountains. There are small towns, botanical gardens and great scenery to experience on this journey. If you travel at the right time of day, the sunset over the mountains of Santiago is beautiful. Then Tarrafal, at the end of your journey, has lovely beaches to enjoy.
