Once again one of the beaches in Cape Verde has been voted into the top 25 in the world in the Tripadvisor Travellers Choice 2019. In previous years it has been Santa Maria beach on Sal island. This time it is Santa Monica beach on Boa Vista island. This beach is the longest in Cape Verde measuring just over 22km. The waves can be excellent for experienced surfers, especially in the winter months.
The beach is unspoilt and so there is a natural feel all around you. There are a variety of birds that enjoy the beach and its surroundings. At the right time of year (March-April) it is sometimes possible to see humpback whales out at sea.
To have beaches like these, relatively close to Europe, is one of the prime attractions of Cape Verde. Just 5 or 6 hours from much of Europe. If you are visiting Boa Vista then Santa Monica beach should be on your itinerary.
