Queen Letizia of Spain has recently visited Cape Verde on a solo Royal Tour. The Queen arrived in Praia on the island of Santiago and was met by ministers and diplomats. Her visit commenced with a visit to the Spanish Embassy, which was followed by a visit to two women’s shelters. These shelters house women, and their children, who have experienced violence.
Later Queen Letizia visited projects being supported by Spanish Cooperation. Here she learnt more about the social, economic and environmental challenges that are faced by the people. The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo) seeks to fight poverty through Spanish Cooperation. It does this by means of technical, economic and financial cooperation, humanitarian aid and education. Queen Letizia was accommpanied by the First Lady of Cape Verde, Débora Katisa Carvalho.
