The Team

Ian Coates
I am Ian, the proprietor of the holiday company and would love to discuss your holiday with you. Travel has always been a big part of my life. In my late teens, and before we all had computers, I was organising trips around the UK and across Europe for groups of friends, using nothing more than a notepad and photocopier. I subsequently started to travel the world, initially for 6 months, then a year and then for 4 years. We now have a fantastic team and a strong ethos to do the “right thing” by protecting the environment, creating inspiring jobs, looking after our clients.

I’ve been part of the holiday company’s team for over 17 years as a destination specialist, and during that time I’ve enjoyed many amazing adventures in Cape Verde. Highlights for me include hiking in Serra Malagueta on Santiago and in the Paúl Valley on Santo Antao, absolutely spectacular! I really enjoy sharing my experiences and drawing from them to create fantastic itinerary ideas for others to enjoy.

I love to explore off the beaten track and there’s plenty of this to discover in Cape Verde. The rest of the archipelago is a world away from the beach resorts of Sal and Boa Vista. Santiago’s Praia City is a bustling hive of life and activity. There’s plenty of culture and landscape here and it was a good starting point for my journey into the real Cape Verde. My favourite experience so far is walking the northern valleys of remote Santo Antão. The valleys really are as spectacular and lush as the stories say. And there’s a bar in Ponta do Sol that serves gin and tonic by the pint!
