Fruit and vegetable markets are to be found in almost every town in Cape Verde. There will usually be a number of stalls vying for your custom. The stall holders will be friendly and chatty, but making a sale is of course their prime objective. The climate is such that much of the food has to be imported. Prices will therefore vary depending on whether the produce is imported or locally grown. The markets will often sell other produce such as eggs. This photograph was taken in the market in Santa Maria on the island of Sal.
