The Câmara (town council) in Tarrafal de São Nicolau has announced the dates of the three largest festivals in 2026. The hope is that announcing the dates early will allow residents to plan and tourists to arrange their visits to the island of São Nicolau. The 2026 cultural programme marks the 21st anniversary of the Municipality of Tarrafal.
The first of the festivals is on 11 April 2026. This is the Sodad – Festival d’Morna. This will take place in the Vila de Praia Branca. A conference will be held the day before to further preserve and enhance the cultural heritage of Morna.
On August 1st & 2nd the town will celebrate the eleventh Tuna Festival. This event combines culture with gastronomy and economic rejuvenation. It reflects the maritime identity of Tarrafal.
The third event in Tarrafal de São Nicolau is on 7 & 8 August when the Praia d’Tedja music festival will take place. This is the largest of the festivals on São Nicolau. It will attract visitors from the other islands and from abroad.
