It has been announced that the Portuguese-Cape Verdean singer Sara Tavares died on 19 November. The artist had been suffering with a brain tumour. In 1994 she represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. She produced several albums between 1996 and 2017. She was forced to pause her career when she was diagnosed with the tumour in 2009. In 2007 she was nominated as a new Artist at the UK BBC3 World Music Awards. In 2011 she was awarded Best Female Voice at the Cape Verde Music Awards. In 2012 she was given a Career Award at the Africa Festival in Germany.
Sara Tavares was of Cape Verdean heritage but she was born in Lisbon in 1978. Many tributes have been paid following her death at the untimely age of 45.
