Christmas in Cape Verde

Have you thought about visiting Cape Verde at Christmas?

The weather in December is lovelywith an average high temperature of 26ºC – 27ºC and the average minimum is 20ºC. There will be some wind for those who love the various forms of surfing. It would be rare if you had any rain. The sea will be warm and you will be able to stay in the water without a wet suit. Why wouldn’t you want to escape the cold weather in Europe and North America and enjoy this sub-tropical climate?

In many places there will be fireworks and if you extend your stay to include New Year you will probably get two displays. In larger hotels there will be a special dinner, there are also restaurant that offer a special Christmas meal. Cape Verdeans love to dance and so you can dance the night away to the rhythmical, catchy music of Cape Verde. You may also be invited to sample the local Grogue or Ponche. Grogue is a form of rum made from sugar cane, and is also an ingredient in Ponche. Grogue is the main ingredients to the Caipirinha cocktail which is very popular. Cape Verde is a mainly Catholic country and so a Christmas Eve Mass is held. Christmas Day is a public holiday, so the shops may be closed.
